my husband just asked me if i'd like to spend the day at antiques shops. hmmm. let me think about this for a moment, honey. YES! YES! YES!

i'm so happy i married this truly original and charming man. i've been thinking more about my marriage this week and what it means to me since our 7th year anniversary is on monday the 14th. thorsten is truly an amazing man in every way. let me tell you one thing that makes him so cool to me.
recently he has been building a collection of antique treasures from the past including an original compass, fruit knives, letter openers, fabric, books from the 1800's, and silver engraved cups. i love when he starts such collections because then he photographs everything and writes complete stories about them. his current main character is lucian so imagine his joy when he found a french silver cup engraved "lucian" in this swirly gorgeous font dated around 1884. he finds a lot of these things on ebay, it amazes me because ebay completely hurts my brain after 30 minutes. information overload!
another pretty image having nothing to do with this post except that i like it.

his last 'creative surge' as i call them was when he had to have clothing from some of his favorite movies. he found auctions in hollywood that partner with large movie companies and ended up winning some amazing clothes that he actually wears. they are all from the films, some are extras (a spare hugo boss suit for actor marton csokas from a fight scene in the 2nd bourne movie for instance - one of his wins), some the actor actually wore for a scene (a hooded ermenegildo zegna sweater that actor karl urban wore also in the 2nd bourne film). one of his great wins was an original, tags attached, john galliano jacket. yeah galliano.
my husband loves clothes, he has more fashion sense than i'll ever have and his wardrobe is meticulously pulled together, his closet an organized by color and style masterpiece. back to galliano. get this, the jacket he won was the protype that costume designers used to fashion the jacket worn by the lead actor marton csokas in eaon flux (the film with charlize theron). get this... when the jacket arrived, the original price tag still dangled from the sleeve. it was purchased in europe because the tag was marked €1,040- and he paid $150! did i mention how you want to take thorsten with you shopping? oh yes, the man scours stores and the internet and finds the most amazing clothing at prices you swear he is making up.
just one of a billion reasons why i appreciate having thorsten in my life.
what cool stuff does your partner do that totally rocks your world? or your best friend? or child? or parents? anyone who inspires you?
we'll get back to decorating with the next post...

how is it pronounced, like the american name "willy" which here, is short for william.
i also like how he notices your changes. i want children so badly and i'm getting a bit concerned because i'm not getting any younger... i have to act soon. i want to be able to decorate when my someday son is 14 -- not using a cane!
Wonderful post! I really enjoy reading positive comments about loved ones. I usually lurk, but I've really been enjoying your new, more personal, blog and wanted to wave Hello.
My husband, Hans, rocks my world by making hot tea for me every morning, supporting my habit of painting anything that sits still for too long, inspiring scads of people as he works his tail off while surviving stomach cancer... he writes, produces tv shows, stars in his own cooking show here in Georgia, teaches cooking classes, makes art prints, and rarely sits still. Gotta love those hardworking and gorgeous German boys!
Take care!
Amy
My husband is one of the kindest guys I've ever met. Other people always ask me if he is as nice as he seems and he is. The first time we tried dating, it didn't work. One of my reasons (I'm sure he had some too) is that he was "too nice"... which I now know just meant I wasn't in a good place myself and wasn't open to someone who really could be good to me. Luckily for me, we met again a year and a half later and he was not yet taken. We just had our 5th anniversary. It's flown by. We have a beautiful 3 year old son who seems to have a lot of his dad in him, thankfully!
I love my husband's kindness, and I am also really attracted to his fierce side, which comes out when he's mountain biking, dirt biking, or snowboarding. He has a passion for these and it shows in how good he is at them. But he's not obnoxious at any of them - he doesn't fit any of those steroetypes of people who do them recklessly.
When I was obsessed with my mood board for the contest last month he was completely supportive, even though I spent hours on this thing that had nothing to do with our everyday lives! He helped me try to photograph the handmade one because I couldn't get the light right and was OK when I spent even more hours to do it again on the computer. He'd just say, "goodnight, have fun...." And then he thought I was going to be normal again when I got it submitted, but no... I had to obsess over everyone else's too!
Yikes! He definitely puts up with a lot!
He also is incredibly handy and loves to do house projects, carpentry, work on cars, fix things, keep things clean... all good! And he is a great father. What more could I want... nothing! I try to remember that every day!
Have a great anniversary!
One example is his singing. He loves to sing and is currently studying to become an Opera Singer. But he doesn't just sing at the conservatorium. He's constantly humming, singing or whistling tunes wherever we go. Which can get a little embarassing sometimes, but mostly I love it.
He also developed a passion for coffee. He's got a 10-cup a day habit and works part time as a barista now. When he lived in Germany a few years ago he travelled to Italy to do a coffee making course with a maestro of coffee. We also grow 3 coffee plants on our tiny balcony and he roasts the few spoonfuls of beans he grows in a popcorn maker.
This ability to love something with so much passion and to get to know absolutely everything you can about it is something I find really inspiring.
Something I appreciate about my husband is how easygoing he is--makes our crazy life very pleasant indeed.
My boyfriend is defintily different! I complain about it because most of my choices don't find my home for this reason. We always must discus what come and what doesn't come in our house. We have a different style about what is nice or not. But it does keep me on track! I love so many different styles and i think it will be a total disaster if I could go all the way. He keeps me focus and he doesn't mind at all to talk and discus our interior. I really love that about him.
Holly, I love your 'new' personal blog :-)
