{entry + new light}

first of all, let me show you the hallway as taken from the doorway of the living room looking towards the front door. to the left is the kitchen and a few doors down to the left is the bathroom. the right wall will be where hooks and a bench and coats will go. i plan to pretty it up though, i don't like a cluttered hallway and i certainly don't want coats to be the first thing you see upon entering...
the hallway is 14.5' in length and about 10' high. i wish they had kept the transom window in over the front door. boo to them.
and for a light... the current lightbulb hanging there just won't do! i love the work of german design studio büro für form, i'm a huge fan of their lighting -- especially the dna pendant. germans are known for being some of the most innovative lighting designers out there and büro für form is known worldwide for their exceptional work. today i purchased the dna pendant in white for the hallway, examples of this light shown below. dna = life. since having a vacation apartment in germany represents part of a new life for me, the dna light will be the first light i see when i enter and exit this apartment so i'll always be reminded of how lucky i am to finally see my dream of living in europe, having a 2nd life there, and perhaps this symbol will motivate me even when i am frustrated or experiencing some feelings of being homesick. i don't anticipate being homesick at all because i'm not permanently relocating to germany right now, but still... the dna light means a lot to me because it's a symbol of taking a risk, a new journey, and it is of course the design is beautiful. in case you are interested in this light for yourself, i purchased this light at for living (click here for the link) and i paid 170,00 € (with tax, free shipping), or $270.00 USD. i purchased the 'double' size with 5 globes, it almost looks like a little dog on an angle. :) i selected this size because it will properly light the hallway and will fit the dimensions perfectly without overwhelming the space. it is in all white, globes, fixture, and cord. i'm thinking of ways to bring some of the circles onto the walls so i have a few wallpaper ideas...
