Oh a hunting we will go...

Today I ventured to one of the local flea markets, this one is held year round along the river in the old town part of the city. The flohmarkt (flea market) started at 7am but I hit it later in the day since it was in the 80s and sunny and I knew it would be busy. I didn't go until late afternoon but I was lucky to find a few tiny things that I liked. Here are some views of the flohmarkt just for you. Let's start at where I hopped off of the u-bahn (subway).

I felt SO SILLY photographing a flea market so I only took a few photos but you can see some of it. It is a "U" shape market extending down one long cobblestone road over a footbridge and then down the other side. I like the flow of it, it's easy to navigate so you can cover the whole market within an hour or two. I have to be honest though, it is not "the bomb" when it comes to flea markets. It's kinda so-so. I heard there's a larger one accessible by train so I'll hit that one next week and see what it's like. This one is nice if you happen to be in the city and want to check it out since it's downtown, but I saw so few things that interested me that I doubt I'll be a regular here... Though I love my 'lil loot! :) (images: holly becker for haus maus)

So, maybe it isn't like one of the those massive buildings in New England that has over 400 vendors ... but what ambiance! I'd just walk around the neighborhoods all day, taking pictures, haha.

It's so strange and lovely to see the city where I grew up through your eyes! I rarely miss it, but you make it look beautiful.

Dear Holly, it is such fun to see photos of my neighbourhood in your blog!
I had a pig like yours when I was a little Girl. Did you know it is a whistle? There must be a hole in the belly of the pig and you can whistle like whistling on an old key ( oh dear, that would have been easier in german, I hope you know what I mean).
Looking forward to more great photographs of my hometown....

Oooh this post is even better than the last! LOVE this! What cool architecture. For being a "meh" little flea market, you managed to score some cool stuff. That 50s book looks SOOOOO awesome! I love the illustrations. And the apple is amazing...and of course the little Schweinchen!

Oooh, when do you start your German lessons??

I love how you took pictures - not cheesy at all! I'm so interested to see what next week's flohmarkt brings. I have to say, your findings at this one are far better than anything I could hope for at the ones around my area of Germany. All the ones around here seem to offer are old cds, random clothing, and ugly bric a brac - seriously nothing salvageable! Best wishes on next week!

I always feel silly whipping out my camera to take photos when we're out and about, but then I just think to myself. These people won;t know me and who cares, I will have the photos to look at later and remember my day in pictures. :)
I love flea markets and I used to frequent the Naschmarkt in Vienna (when I lived over there) on Saturdays. It was one of my proudest moments when I was able to bargain with a seller in German! :)

Wow, real Delft Blue ware! Good find! I adore your wooden apple...
And what a lovely day to go shopping on a fleamarket...

You have to be there very early in the morning, otherwise all the good stuff will be long gone. At least that is what it was like a few years ago, when I always went there at six am after a long night out.

Oh, the buildings look so beautiful there!! I love that you took us on a little "tour" - even though you are seriously making me wish I could go to Europe right now.

I'm a bit late in reading this post, but I had to comment- I have that pig!!! My husband got it back in 1987 ish when he lived in Germany. Weird!! Yes, I had to rescue it- my husband was going to throw him away!!
He was so sweet I had to keep him. (the pig I mean, hee hee)
