New Home Inspiration

I'm starting to pull together some images that can help me nail down some definite decorating ideas for my new home. I have consulted the pages of VTWonen first, it is one of my top five favorite magazines in the world so where else should I turn as I begin my decorating journey? Here are some images from their magazine that I've collected as inspiration.

Inspiration

When I'm inspired by something, I don't copy it -- that's too boring -- but I do translate it into something original and authentic, something that fits my personality and lifestyle. That's how inspiration should work, right? I can already see that my new home will be filled with lots of soft color but I also plan to add some drama so it's not a pastel playground because too much of a good things feels too sticky sweet to me. My goal is to decorate very feminine modern with some healthy tension thrown in to make it fun. And I want the home to feel very light and bright, but also warm and welcoming -- not like a hospital but like a home should feel - cherished, loving, full of creativity and energy.

I love all the photos you have chosen. They are all inspiring really. I'm slowly changing more of my walls to white. I really like that look. How fun for you to be able to decorate a new home!

love the industrial magazine rack, I have something similar but nowhere to put it, oh well.
I so wish we could get VtWonen in the states, I always grab it when I am overseas. Can't wait to see how your new place progress's.

I love these pieces, particularly the canopy bed and rolling shelf. Thanks for the link on the magazine. Beautiful stuff.

I love the canopy bed and the rolling shelf. All of it is beautiful, though. Thanks for the link on the magazine. It's great to hear of good sources here in Germany.

I found myself looking at the wall arrangements b/c ours are still quite bare. I really love that wall w/the collage of white textiles...very intriguing! What a great way to bring some texture into a room! The plate arrangement is another great one, and that set of wooden drawers looks so fun (Ikea?) and would be great to stash all sorts of sewing bits and bobs.

I'm really excited to see what you do with your new space! Must be so thrilling and freeing to be in a place you plan to stay for a long time!

Did you know that you can read on www.vtwonen.nl all the old magazines from I believe 2006 untill last month? Also other great magazines are Bobedre and Skona Hem but they are Danish and Swedish I think.

Yes, many things :) I would love to have that kind of bed with the framework (from Ikea?) in our livingroom as a sofa, but haven't yet convinced the husband. Also, love the colorful rug on the bench with the pillows, and the industrial shelf with the wheels, AND the candelabra. I think for now, those would do.
The grey armorie with the ripped wallpaper inside is a special treat in this inspiration round up. There's something special about a piece of furniture surprising you with the smallest details...gets me everytime.

I love yours choices. They perfectly match your criteria: feminine without being too 'sticky sweet'. Have fun with decorating!

This must be one of the most inspiring collections of images for interior decoration: soft, feminine and contemporary. The process of decorating your own house is fascinating!

Hi Holly,

as you are moving soon, let me give you this very useful shop-adress: www.einza.de sells colours. They do high quality, in a very large range and are cheaper than the usual Baumarkt and will sell to professional painters as well as to you and me.
Go here: http://www.einza.com/Partner-in-Ihrer-Naehe.60.0.html

5 litres of high quality indoor paint start at about 20 euros, depending on the intensity of the chosen colour. 'Lack' starts at 18 euros for half a litre - exactly in your chosen shade too. I just loved their range.

I've just redone my living room you see. I had my wallpaper shipped from England, as this was 22 quid a roll (the same Graham & Brown would have been 64 € in Germany...).

A really great choice of pictures (and thank you for the vtwonen tip - I created own moodboards the whole evening today)! I love your idea of decorating your new home. It inspires me to paint walls in my flat in less dramatic colors and to take courage to mix more things together.

Looks like it will definitely be time to get rid of a Lot of 'raufasertapete'- Textured wallpaper to achieve the prettiness of your Inspiration on a neutral Background.

Well that figures... The one week that I was crazy busy and there was all this great content on Hausmaus. I love all the greys and I can take something from just about every picture. I do love love the last picture. What beautiful wallpaper and it is not really being discussed here, but I love the cardigan, top and necklace too. ;)
Oh, and the link... I will be spending a little time there this evening.
