Bedroom Decor Update

Well I've changed my mind because I just don't LOVE the cow parsley/ferm living papers or the color scheme that I was thinking for our bedroom. I want to try a ferm living paper in another room (I'm thinking the guest bedroom) but I really need to nail down the design of my bedroom first and I feel really good today because I have.

bedroom palette

I want a sexy, feminine yet smokey, tactile and very cozy bedroom but I do not want a ton of pattern or bold color in there. And while I love pastels, and I will use them in each room of my home, I want to mix in grey, black and brown tones to make them reflect ME more and not be quite as sweet. I also want to age my interiors because I don't like homes where everything looks and feels brand new so I plan to do a lot of flea marketing but also to do custom work to new stuff to give it my unique stamp.

Thanks to a home that I styled in Amsterdam for my book and the paints that Sibella Court created along with seeing them painted here on kraft paper hanging on her door, I have my bedroom palette. Sibella calls this palette "Paper Whites". I call this palette "Bom chicka wah wah" because this is how you will see my bedroom after I move in. Dusty, smokey, but very fresh -- light and dark, soft, tactile... Ah yes, this is the palette. This speaks to me and says go with your heart, do it...

I love the colors you've chosen, Holly! They're cozy without being cloying. I'm really looking forward to seeing you whip your new place into shape.

I'm curious about one thing, which is kind of personal, so feel free *not* to answer it! To what extent is your husband involved in the decorating process? Is he more of a "I leave all the decisions to Holly because she knows what she's doing" type of guy, or does he like to contribute his own ideas along the way? Some couples have very similar tastes, some don't, and let's face it -- some men really don't care one way or the other how a place looks.

My boyfriend won't abide anything in the bedroom or main living areas that he thinks is too girly - floral patterns, soft "feminine" colors. I always have to keep that in mind when I'm shopping for new sheets and cushions and such.

Absolutely love the colours you have chosen. We are soon going to be changing over the decor in our bedroom as well. I'm excited to explore some new colours!

Would you be happy to share the names of the paint and the manufacturers of it once you are finished? I am very confused about the different types of German paint on offer in our local DIY stores. From what I've seen, if it isn't white painted woodchip wallpaper then they either don't sell it or look at you as if you are mad for wanting to paint in other color!!

Holly, you've chosen the exact colours I have in my bedroom. They are so soft and tranquil, my husband even loves them. I can't wait to see more!
Holly,

Oh I love those colours, I must say I perfer them much more for a bedroom than the wallpapers. It is abit bold looking for me, but everyone is different. The colours here are far more relaxing and serene, yet soft and sweet :) Love them, good choice!

All things nice...

Holy Moly! It's like you are reading my mind! These are the exact colors I have in mind for our bedroom. I bought a gorgeous quilt in Spain last fall that is the color of the one on the bottom. I'm not a huge purple girl, but it's more about the mood that I am after... serene, sophisticated, and not to masculine or girlie. Now I just need my STUFF to arrive so I can get started!

Oh yes, I'm agreeing with everyone else. LOVE these colours! So soft and beautiful for a bedroom. Although the yellow was fresh and bright, this is so delicious and restful too.
I always love reading your posts and looking at all your lovely pictures...I really like your style. Very inspirational! :)

How wonderful! And what a coincidence. Just today on the bus home I was thinking about what colour to paint my walls and was starting to lean toward some dusky, smoky sort of pastel. And then I get home and read this post and I'm thinking, these are *exactly* the kind of colours I was picturing in my mind's eye...

I love how the paint colors you have chosen reflect both warm and cool sides of the color wheel and will blend well with greys and browns. Very sophisticated and modern at the same time as being timeless. An inspiring post.

My bedroom is also done in these colors....dark grey walls, white bedding, dark wood. The soft pinks and greens come from a silk rug we have hanging on the wall from Afghanistan. It's such a sexy combination!

P.S. Your new home is absolutely wonderful, what I wouldn't give to live in Europe again.
