Shopping Tips

I'd love to know... do you have any online shopping sources in Germany or the EU (must ship to Germany of course) where you buy clothes, home stuff, books, etc?

Space I Designed for Adorn Magazine

So far, I'm either buying from Car, Impressionen, The o Dor (from Paris, expensive shipping though), Le Souk, H&M, 3 Suisses and Amazon.de or Amazon.co.uk. Any other stores you suggest based on personal experience? (photo: space I designed for an magazine shoot in 2007 - I own the painting.)

One of my favourite online shop for home is AM PM : http://www.laredoute.fr/achat-espace-marques-ampm.aspx?categoryid=16270749

You should also ask for the paper catalogue. It's like a deco magazine where you can buy everything (that their baseline ;-) )

I hope you'll like it !

I love http://www.anusha.co.uk/ for clothes.

And this is a great boots place if you find it difficult to buy boots

Hope you like them,

Hi Holly,
You may want to look into www.boden.co.uk. They have the cutest clothes, shoes and accessories!

Hi Holly

I haven't commented in a while, but just wanted to say that I'm really enjoying your posts about the apartment search. I'm moving this year as well, so this is extra inspirational.

Now stores, hm, let me think:
- you probably already now Zara Home?
http://www.zarahome.com/shop/de/de/zara-home/home
Haven't tried this myself yet, but they have yummy stuff.

Books:
- The Book Depository is excellent: free delivery worldwide on most of their books, and many of the titles on Amazon are available through them as well
http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/

- Persephone Books... What can I say, they are just stunning, absolutely beautiful, I would love to collect them all. Their "One Book A Month"offer is very tempting
http://www.persephonebooks.co.uk
I use to shop at Manufactum (they have an UK site here in English as well, but since they´re based in Germany, it is cheaper to order from the first one) I love traditional handicraft and always find little gifts for gardening, cooking, home styling there...

Snowy greetings from Berlin, Juliane

Hi, Holly,

I am a big fan of "The White Company", a British shop with several shops in London and elsewhere. (You'd be in London with Ryan Air for some 20 EUR via Bremen or Luebeck). And I absolutely love their online shop http://www.thewhitecompany.com/ for bed linen, towels and garments. As the Euro is still quite strong, the prices are competitive even with higher postage. Plus they are friendly and returns are easy.

All the best,
Cancale

I combed through my "I want to buy this, although I don't need it, but I save it anyway, because it is soo great-list" and well, many shops are English/American/Japanese ones :( All I have are those you already named plus these 6, mmh…:

Manufactum (natural stuff, sometimes a bit frumpy),
MUJI (home of simple and brandfree products),
Design 3000,
Lesen.de (sometimes English books are cheaper there than at Amazon.de and its free shipping too, at least within Germany)
well, Dawanda,
and TechGalerie (quirky USB gadgets and other useless stuff *g*).

Nothing super fancy and awesome I guess :(

I like Mirabeau Versand (I don't have any personal experience with them though...)

They're maybe a little conventional, but Next is a UK company w/ a German site. It looks like shipping to Deutschland starts at 5 euros.

I second the post about The Book Depository. They offer a comparison to Amazon.co.uk on their site but as they have free worldwide shipping, they'll probably work out less expensive (they are definitely the cheapest way to buy books in Australia, although not very good for the carbon footprint).

We've ordered a few things from www.tschibo.de and been pretty happy for the price. Little lamps or random kitchen stuff, etc. You never really know what you're going to see there since it changes weekly/monthly, and it's pretty cheap stuff, but the quality is usually pretty darn good for the price. Sort of like Target quality/prices but a tiny selection.

Also - their travel section is actually pretty good if you select higher stars of lodging.

Yes,Manufactum! They are just great. I only have a perfume from them because it's too pricey for me,but I love the catalogues (some articles can be read like literature!), and I'm planning to visit the warehouse in Frankfurt. Every little thing there has something special about it. I think you should mention them on your other little blog :) I'm also missing Cath Kidston and Laura Ashley on decor8!
For fabric, check out stoffundstil.de, the good prices make up for the shipping.
Kirsch Interior (http://www.kirsch-interior.de/shop/index.php) has some nice little deco ideas.
Apart from handmade things, you can find great vintage stuff on Dawanda!
Brigitte von Boch at http://bevonboch.com/shop/ has nice things, too -from fashion to home.
A great site for shopping local:
http://www.stylespotted.com/ has a drop-down menu for various german cities, such as Hannover. You can find all the small, charming little shops there, that you may have overlooked before.
And pleeeease let us know what you liked, maybe even where you shopped!

I recently ordered some clothes from ASOS. They are based in the UK but ship to the EU. I loved all the items I got which happens rare when I shop online.

A favorite shop of mine is Plumo - they have gorgeous clothes and cuteness for the home:)

Topshop and Zara are great too.

I've never tried it, but you can order from Habitat. www.habitat.de

I was going to recommend you Zara Home, but the link has been already suggested :)

I would suggest:

- Bemz: http://www.bemz.com/index.php/page/home/selectFlag/de/ (alternative slipcovers for IKEA sofas)

- Maisons du Monde: http://uk.maisonsdumonde.com/ (ma fav lately)

What a great question! I'll be checking through the comments carefully to make sure I bookmark all the links.

I'm eying Artedonna; gorgeous houseware, but I haven't ordered from them yet: http://www.artedona.com/

Hope you all find something there worth lusting over!

Moebel Car and Impressionen are favories of mine also... Sometimes I order from Zara Home or Zara Home Kids. Cute stuff at reasonable prices although sometimes shipping can be expensive from Spain.
chiaroscuro said…
I can recommend the http://www.finnishdesignshop.com/ for home and kitchenware. They also have clothing.
And http://www.artedona.com/ looks very nice, I don't have any experience of ordering there though. AND for the best birthday presents there is always the http://www.schenkshop.de/ :-))

As for ordering at Impressionen and co - I mentioned that in the past but here it comes again. Always check out ebay first. I've successfully found items that cost me a fraction of the catalog price - and I could pick some of them up (most Impressionen return sellers are located in HH).
I don't want to name the item I'm watching right now but it costs around 600 (catalog price - 1300). Mmmh! I really need to decide myself!
And if you send me your up-to-date email address, I'll invite you to brands4friends, a closed shopping community which has brand sales that last just a couple of days so you have to a) be in and b) be quick in order to score the item first.
Lace-up.de has a REALLY good selection of shoes - and they have good offers rather often, so it makes sense to register and get their newsletter.
And - am I the only person who thinks that CAR Möbel is deliriously overpriced?

For furniture look at

http://www.octopus-versand.de/

Their furniture is usually presented in the "Brigitte" magazine. Delivering takes it´s time, though.
Kind regards
Herr M
So nice to read all these recommendations (Manufactum and Muji are two I'd have mentioned as well...). Here are a couple more:

Paper and Ribbon:
http://www.leporello-berlin.de/shop.htm
http://www.ribbonsandcrafts.de

Books (Home decoration):
http://www.wohnbuch.de/

Home accessories/furniture:
http://www.freundts.de/

http://www.lambert-studio-wohnkultur.de/ (look here if you want to see the company's site: nicer to browse but no online shop: http://www.lambert-home.de/ )

No real online shop but, we ordered via email and phone and the service was excellent. I can recommend this one (save some money first ;)): http://www.schubladen.de

Have fun!

This has been mentioned already, but Boden is so great really. Love it.

For shoes, I also like Pretty Ballerinas (http://www.prettyballerinas.com) and Goertz (http://www.goertz.de). Oh, and Pampuschen! http://www.pampuschen.com

Then there´s Gudrun Sjoeden but I think you know her already.

Perle Shop is a sweet little place (http://www.perle-shop.de), as well as Luona (http://www.lunoa.de).

I order most of my fabrics from Quiltzauberei (http://www.quiltzauberei.de) - Amy Butler! - or Anita Pavani for organic fabric http://www.naturstoff.de/

Scandinavian Design Center is great as well (www.scandinaviandesigncenter.de), and Finnish Design Shop (www.finnishdesignshop.com). And Skansen in Stockholm has a sweet Museum shop that ships all over Europe (www.skansenbutiken.se).

Enjoy :)

I've stopped ordering from H&M and 3Suisses because they take forever to ship. I waited 15 weeks for my last order from 3Suisses - and they ship from Aachen! It shouldn't take more than a week imho.

I usually only order books online and Thalia is my favorite shop. I also like weltbild.de and jokers.de (great books on sale, out of print editions for example). Last year I got new furniture from Ikea and used their homeshopping. Very convenient and reasonably priced!

I second the reccommendation for The Book Depository, and I also love Asos (www.asos.com) and Dollydagger (www.dollydagger.co.uk).

Deens.nl, Noords.nl, lillelykke.nl are all three kind of the same shops but i love them.
Tuttemerull.nl is very special. I'm not very sure if all four of them will ship to germany but i don't think its a big problem.

I also shop at lesouk but i never tried a webshop from outside the Netherlands so i can't really help you any further. I'm sorry!

I was about to suggest Bonaparte.de, too.
Gudrunsjoden.de is quite expensive but has good offers in the sale. I'm especially fond of all the embroidery Gudrun uses!
Hema.nl has announced that 'soon' it will be possible to order from outside of Holland.
I love asos.com for a nice pair of boots or heels.
And now I'm off to look at all the other great shops mentioned in the comments!

Hi,
what about cairo?

http://www.cairo.de

They ship any of their items within 24 hrs. I have ordered there for my clients and they were prompt, correct and very kind.
Actually their website is only in German.

Or have you heard about Ikarus? Another company I like:
http://www.ikarus.de/shop/index.jsf

Maybe they have something you like.

Greetings,
Astrid
