{A Joyful Shutterbug}
Lately I've been trying to find some hobbies that will help me to step away from my normal work routine but yet every time I find a hobby I notice that it directly links to my work. I can't get away from work no matter how hard I try. What a battle!
My current passion is photography. I'm trying to put an effort into learning about composition and lighting and it's mostly through trial and error as I hate how to manuals and learn best by jumping in head first. Here is some of my recent work. I will continue shooting, learning, and hopefully growing. Still life photography, self portraits, and nature photography seems to be my favorite though I really like to photograph people. The problem with people as a subject is that they run saying that they hate to have their photo taken so I have few willing subjects.
I'll continue to post more here on haus maus if you'd like. I don't mind sharing them, I think it's a good exercise for me. It also makes me happy.
Do you enjoy taking photos? What do you like to photograph?

I've always thought it's something I *should* be good at, but I just don't have it in me. I really struggled with this inadequacy in art school - I wanted so badly to take beautiful photos, but I just never have. At a certain point I decided just to use a camera for the sake of documentation, which is different.
I still get pangs of regret every time I look at Sandra's (Smosch) blog. Her photos are exactly the kind I've always envisioned being able to take! Street photography & elevation of the mundane through composition, color, and juxtaposition.
I'll just have to be okay being a designer, and let the photographers be photographers. :)
as for what i like to photograph...i love taking pictures of wool, i don't know why, and clouds (ditto), anything against a white backdrop. i wish i was better at selfs...(-: enjoy your photos!
I too really love photography and prefer landscapes... I like doing portraits but mainly just candids.
The only person in my house who doesn't hide when i grab my camera is my 9 month old so he is my main subject (aka. victim! LOL)
I hope you keep putting your photos on here...i really enjoy looking at other peoples work...it is so amazing how we all have the same eyes and yet SEE things so differently...
I love taking pictures of plants and other things found in nature. I'm a trial-and-error person myself, although I've found online tutorials (by Googling things like 'photographing lunar eclipses' or 'photographing fireworks') to be helpful, as long as they're short, as I have a limited attention span for that sort of thing.
Yes please...post many!
i love taking photos and seem to be obsessed lately also. i "see" almost everything as a photo!
I do enjoy setting up mini vignettes or still life in the home,i love light and shadow, and clouds are a big obsession.
I have found that by taking photos, I am more grateful and appreciative of the world and of my little world within it. The beauty in the big picture and in the smaller picture. It helps me get out of myself...and sometimes i need to do that.
Thanks Holly for making me ponder~again~

What kind of camera do you use?
Have a nice weekend.
Bye,
Marianne
I love taking photographs, but I have to admit, mine are amateurish...sigh

You clearly have an eye for lighting and composition. Even more so, you have a talent for styling!
I think you should start thinking about selling print of your work.
:)
So until I get a good digital camera (hopefully this year) I'm learning how to wrangle my cell phone camera to get around it's obvious limitations. I have a hard time with light. I do best with close-ups. I want to learn about composition. I really want Photoshop to play around with my results more, but am making do with the free Picasa software, which is actually pretty cool.
I definitely want to document my life, like what Anna was saying, but I really want to learn how to do it better. I come from a family who spends it's holidays looking at old photos, filmstrips, videos, etc. We love to document! And review. So I want to not only contribute to that, but do so in a beautiful way.
I tend to have to get out of the house and be looking at architecture, flowers, scenery, etc in order to put my "photography" hat on.
I love photography and keep working at it. I love taking pictures of nature, children, and macro. I struggle with good food pictures and still life's. I never feel like my house is clean enough to take those. Hazards of having two small children at home all the time I guess. :)
If you have a minute I would love some advice regarding finding chairs for our kitchen table (the Ikea docksta).
