{it's the little things...}
Little things mean a lot. At least to me, I'm big on details. Everything I buy, right down to a bottle of soda needs to be pretty. I've been like this my entire life. The only thing I don't think about is food packaging, like my cheese doesn't have to come in a pretty package. But once it is home, it is quickly transferred to a pretty pastel blue Tupperware container.
Most cereal boxes annoy me, they are so ugly, so I transfer cereal into a pretty glass container so that I can enjoy the display of puffed yellow circles or earthy granolas. Recently I went shopping for a rolodex, you know a card file in which I can keep all of my contacts. I'm not one to rely on my computer for contact information, I don't like it for some reason and being as tactile of a person that I am, I sometimes resent the computer because so many things I once enjoyed touching are now digital and so I can go a full day sometimes without touching a single sheet of paper. This bothers me. That is why I buy notebooks and paper goods and REAL address files vs. the Address Book on my Mac.
This is my latest purchase, from an Etsy shop in Scotland called Margaret & Walter. This talented lady makes gorgeous wood address organizers for $50 and they come with all the filler papers you see here, each different and oh so pretty. I love my new purchase because it is warm, practical, stylish, and it's not something that I can only access with a mouse or keyboard. I really love the chunky wood base, it's not plastic like those you find in the store. Best part, the shop owner writes a lovely little note to thank you for your purchase. Target has never once done that. I will gladly pay $50 for something made so well that feels special.
Are you also obsessed with pretty mundane things too? Please tell me what little things you take note of...

But very often I can find myself keeping nice, beautiful labels either, or cutting some pieces of chocolate envelope as bookmarks.
So, we are quite complicated :)
Lovely Design's card files
Basically, anything that I see "out" I want to be pretty and I highly dislike seeing a lot of labels/logos/advertising in my house. Anything like that goes in a cupboard.
greetings from australia :-)
I have been looking for something like this forever!!
I too need to be tactile with my resources. I don't use my mac address book except for email addresses.
this one is lovely and perfect! no plastic.
thank you again for sharing your terrific find.

Here's a tip for keeping your cheese - wrap it in freezer paper. You could always draw flowers on it. ;-o

yes yes yes i'm so into the little things.. for example, i have an eye for take away paper coffee cups, the coffee is so much better if the paper cup is somehow unique or pleasing to the eye.... i have an italian friend in paris who is crazy about the aesthetic appeal of jello boxes, she says they are so american, when i moved back to the states i left her with some of the 'little boxes' as she calls them, and she was beyond thrilled, since then i've been adding to her collection and she displays them in her stylish kitchen as though they were works of art. and i love her for it.
