My raffrollos are! My raffrollos are here! (aka roman shades). I ordered them from Gudren Sjoeden last month and I nearly kissed the delivery man when they arrived this morning. I can't wait to hang them, but since the walls are cement I need to go to the hardware store to buy nails that can penetrate cement blocks (I only have wood nails). One advantage of cement walls: total privacy. I barely ever hear my neighbors. Downside: I have to use special nails and I need to drill almost everything and it's a lot of work to drill into cement. Thankfully Thorsten handles installation around here. I just hold up stuff and point. :) But I had to drill one day and my arm nearly fell off. When the raffrollos are up I'll share a photo. I'm thinking later today perhaps? I've had nothing on my windows since moving here August 8th, the pine trees outside of my window have done a nice job at keeping me relatively comfortable at night as they are a good source of privacy... but it will be nice to have proper window treatments. Now I can run naked from room to room! Weeeeeee! Just kidding. Never. :) I wouldn't say these rollos are that private though as they are pretty sheer, but at least they make the window look a little more spruced up and not as boring. So local shoppers... Add Scandinavian company Gudren Sjoeden as another source for shopping here in Germany. They threw in a free cosmetics bag with my purchase, so I can't complain about having to wait 3 weeks for the rollos. ;) xo, holly

The easiest way to hang items on cement walls is with carpet tacks. Those suckers are super sharp, go in as easily as a nail into drywall, and are pretty strong for items like artwork. It was an awesome tip I learned when I lived in Turkey and had my first experience with cement walls.

I know what you mean about drilling into cement...and the noise it makes too!! You should have run naked to celebrate your Scandinavian product....are they not into that there...when climate or heating allows? LOL

Great window coverings although when you said lavender silk shantung I nearly had palpitations...such gorgeousness but true at quite a price there

Oh yeah, we are all running around naked here first chance we get! No, but seriously, being naked in your house is very normal here. Not so in the US perhaps?
Well, I can easily admit to having been seen naked by most of neighbours. At least that is what I assume, I haven't really seen them looking, but I walk around in my birthday suit all the time, and I have no curtains. *lol*
I'm trying to get rid of that habit now though, as I stay at my boyfriends house a lot, and he shares it with his brother, who is probably not so keen at seeing my privates over breakfast...
