{kitchen lighting}
i'm calling in my wallpaper order in the morning... i'm going with the yellow cole & son cow parsley for the kitchen to coordinate with my white cabinetry, you know the cabinetry i envision but haven't decided on yet? yeah, that cabinetry. i plan to use red and blue as accent colors, but the primary palette will be yellow/white and metal accents in silver. i'm thinking of going with one of these pendants. question is, designer from twentytwentyone or budget ikea? for the kitchen, i'm leaning towards a budget option.
but now part of me sees this red pendant from ikea and wants to go with red/white in the kitchen. errr. and do the yellow cole + son cow parsley in the adjacent living room or hallway. oh no, here i go again!
so my vision is white cabinets, appliances and shelves, a wood surface to warm things up a bit, cow parsley on the walls, a white or yellow (or both) pendant, and accents of red and navy or black. I like the idea of placing some pretty china on the walls, maybe 3 plates.
anyone own an ikea pendant? how do they stand up - are they decent quality? they seem so inexpensive to me, and sometimes that scares me a little...

However, we have a cheap little shop (think mini-Christmas Tree store)that has 15 euro chandeliers in an antique white finish. I think I'm going to buy one and spray paint it a deep red.
This decision was compounded with the fact that with no external exhaust, I see a build up of cooking ick on my cabinets (and we eat healthy too!)so I wanted a light fixture that would either camouflage the build-up or be something I didn't care too much about.
We dont have an IKEA pendant at home but i have seen it one of my friend's place and it is really decent for the price that you pay.
Maybe you shd try it on this time.
Cheers !

I've been reading decor8 for some time now, but this morning I had a nice surprise finding your new blog that mainly concentrates on life in Germany!
I am also an expat (originally from Estonia) living here in Germany. We just bought a flat in Frankfurt/Main. (He works here as a designer and so we figured that there is not much point to just pay the rent forever.)
The flat itself is a 'rough diamond', located in the heart of the city, ca 150 metres from the riverside. Quite small indeed, but what a heavenly terrace it has! And a view to the garden, or Blick ins Grüne, as they say here. :)
We haven't had much time decorating it yet, just painted all the walls white. Next thing to do is replacing this hideous laminate for a qooden parquette...
Anyway, I am truly hoping to find here inspiration and tips for our renovation and decoration works ahead. I am also planning to cover this topic more thoroughly in my own blog (http://www.isetegija.net/index.php?ind=blog&op=home&idu=1896 - mainly handicrafts-centered and in Estonian, though).
Liebe Grüsse from Frankfurt am Main,
Epp :)
I just remembered something about IKEA pendants. Here is what I did to one of them in our previous (rental) flat here in Frankfurt.

It was a nice minimalistic matte glass shade (the sticker on it said "handmade glass"), but the general impression of the kitchen was a bit too sterile-looking to feel at home there. So I grabbed a crochet hook and some thread from the local yarn shop. :)

As for IKEA pendants, I had one in the kitchen when I lived in London and that thing took a beating! It still looked great the day 4 students moved out!
I have an IKEa pendant in my other home. I think is like the price. No an amazing thing, the quality so so and good price..(that's the best I think...) But if you have the chance to get other kind of pendants then go ahead!
Here's a bit of red & white Ikea kitchen inspiration for you from my fave designer Sarah Richardson:
