Staubsauger Liebe

Staubsauger Liebe = Vacuum Love. Hihi! Hello! Hello! Okay so let's talk about domestic stuff again because my blog has been a bit of an infomercial about my books and classes lately. Sorry about that.

Today, let's talk about vacuums. But first, what do you call a vacuum in German? No, I'm not about to deliver a punch line - I'm serious, do you know the word? It's called Staubsauger. I had a hard time pronouncing it when my cleaning lady asked me about vacuums but I've finally learned how to say it without embarrassment. Staubsauger is pronounced like this: . If you want to tell someone to actually do the task of vacuuming, it's called Saugen for short - that's pretty easy, right? Ok, onto the point of this post.

Staubsauger Liebe

I bought a new Staubsauger! I'm so happy that I did, the one before it was a cheap and a total helpless runt of a vacuum! I got really sick of dealing with it. I was either going to buy a Dyson or a Miele. In the end, my husband said Dyson and I said Miele. I won, but only because he appreciated that my choice was a few hundred euros cheaper than his. I bought the Miele S 8340 Ecoline in Lotus White (pure white) for 183 Euros. It's great - wow - seriously the BEST vac I've ever owned!

This is one of many things I love about living in Germany. You get German products (for the most part - except our BMW!) for a lot less than you'd pay for them in the states. This same vacuum goes for around $500 in the states. So expats, we may not have Target here but you find other things to shop for and love, trust me!

This cute video from Miele made me smile!

We call the task itself "saugen" (to suck), "stauben" for me would be using one of these fluffy feather things or a wet cloth to get rid of dust.

Anyways, Miele Staubsauger are great! My parents have three of them (one for each level in the house), the oldest one is older than me (I'd say it is about 30 years old) and it still works perfectly. That's the real Deutsche Qualitätsarbeit.

I love Miele so much I own ALL their appliances. Except for a washing machine. But that's next. As soon as this one dies.

Glad you're in love. You should try their ovens, stovetops, driers.

THE BEST!

I now have a Philips which has been living with me for 20 years. I will keep this one mind, just in case...;-)

We bought a Miele when we first moved here and it's been fantastic. So much so that we bought my MIL one when her other vac finally died.

My only regret is that we didn't buy one with a rotating head for our 2 thicker rugs, but I'm dying to toss them anyhow, so, you know, the vac is the perfect excuse to get new rugs, right?? =D
