Temporary Office

One of my two work desks arrived, this one is lovely and is solid wood in white with two drawers. I love it! Instead of setting it up in the massive work room in the front of the house, where there is currently nothing, I decided to set up a makeshift work area in the back of the house, near my husband's office, in our spare bedroom. We had nothing in the room anyway, so why not move in there and that way I can have a space to work until I can get my work area in the front of the house fully furnished.

Temporary Office

I'm so happy I made this decision! I just moved in about an hour ago, so what you see here is very thrown together but you get the picture at least of where I will now work until the big room is ready. I love my new desk, and the great cabinet from IKEA that is now discontinued in Germany (thank you Thorsten for putting it together, he said it was horrible to build!). I love the curbside find that I grabbed last month in the List -- found in the trash -- the cute wood school chair with the yellow base. You don't see a chair in front of my desk because I am waiting for the delivery guy to bring it any moment now, it's a Vitra chair from Connex (this one).

Please excuse the black cord chaos! We are going to do something about that as soon as possible but this office is only 1 hour old so I have to figure out how to conceal them. I also need to hang a mood board, install an overhead light, and put a few shelves on the wall. I want to show you my Swedish bench tomorrow, it's on the other wall in this room and will be where my books will go for now, in stacks.

I am very happy with my new office!

I love that sweet little school house chair. I can't believe you found it in the trash!

It must feel good to have a proper work space, even if it's only temporary.

Wonderful space and that desk is so lovely. Sturdy and feminine, fabulous. Enjoy your new space, I am thinking its time I did the same in our spare room. Have a great week. ax
I love your space! Thank you for rescuing that cute chair, I'm sure he is grateful :) I was thinking about getting the ikea cabinet you have...but I know my husband would not be a happy camper about putting it together. Can't wait to see more! Have fun with it!

Yay for finally having your own space! We have cord problems, too, and the best solution seems to be to tuck the extra lengths of cable under a throw rug. Although for your space I suppose those under-desk cable consolidators would be neatest. I've seen them at Obi. =)

I love love love having my own room for my office and don't know how I've done without one for so long. It's a luxury, I know, but boy is it enjoyed! I know you're loving yours, temporary as it is!

For the cords under my and router, I bought a nice box and carved out the back for the cords and air circulation. It doesn't get in my way and makes things far tidier. I have a glass top desk so you can see everything. I got one of those plastic cord cover to coral everything in place and it's a light colour to match the wall. You hardly notice it trailing down to the box.

I've been thinking about getting one or two of these to avoid 'cable clutter': http://www.bluelounge.com/products/cablebox/

They are a bit expensive though...could probably make something similar for cheaper!

I love that IKEA cabinet so much. I've been totally obsessed with it since it came out, but I don't have anywhere to put it! I know as soon as I figure out a use, it'll be discontinued. Hahaa.
Fallen for this little space. Great details as well, especially the dotty decoration.

I cannot believe you found that chair in the trash! Lucky, lucky girl you are! I love your new desk too. We have been looking and looking for something for my husband, but so far we have just kept the designer desk our landlord left behind. It's black and not really our style but our Danish friends keep flipping out over it. I wish it had a name on it so I wouldn't have to ask where it's from!

I know just how you feel, and it's so wonderful! When we first converted my garage into the studio and I moved in, it was so nice to have a new space to work in (and decorate!). I also love your desk, it reminds me very much of my own- and it is very big and spacious, isn't it? =)

Such a nice place, loved it. I'm very curious about the white object with coloured dots at the door, what is that thing. Congratulations and have a lot of work at your temporary place.

I have been eyeing that Ikea cabinet for ages. keep going to Ikea and coming back empty handed as I can't figure out where to put it. Well- maybe when I decide Thorsten wants to pay a visit and put it together?!

I love it! Is your desk German? You didn't link to it, so I assumed it was a local find. I love it! :)

I love your new cabinet. Why does IKEA always discontinue the good stuff? Can just imagine how frustrating it was to put together. All those drawers. Kudos to your hubby for putting it together.
Really like the polka dot fabric and ornament.

Holly, it is all just gorgeous, but I think that is the best Dala Horse I've ever seen! Do you remember where he/she is from?

Oh, it looks lovely Holly! I can understand why you'd want a finished and cozy temporary space rather than a half-done cavernous office for now. I LOVE your chair find and the bits of sweet art you have on the walls.

Re: the cabinet that everyone loves so. This was part of the IKEA PS range last year, yes? If I recall right, PS items are limited-edition and only around for about a year :( My bf and I bought some shelves from the same collection as this cabinet, we love them!

Oh Holly, that looks so cosy... The light is beautiful, your furniture is and all these cute little details - I love it. I could imagine working there too very well. The only thing I have too in my office and I'm very much looking forward if you have an idea for it: what could we do to hide all these cabels? Wish you a lovely day! Steffi

I have one question about the Sinka Ikea cabinet. Is it possible to remove the legs and use it without them? I could not find that out, but it looks like it is possible ... As you own it, what would you say?

Jule
