My Overwhelming List of Things To Do

Hello to my dear Haus Maus readers. I hope that you are doing good! Today is Saturday and though it's a dreary day, I'm heading out soon to the farmers' market to meet my friends and then go do some shopping for the baby and to take some photos of our new apartment - so I can share them with all of you! But first, how are you? I hope you are doing well.

I will be 30 weeks pregnant on Monday... Already! I cannot believe it. And we're in the process of moving upstairs two floors so we'll have a sunny apartment with an extra bedroom for the little one. I can't wait! The new hardwood floors in the bedrooms and back hallway are being installed currently and then, all of the walls in the apartment and ceilings, oh and doors, will be painted. It's going to be a very busy time. We hope to have all of the renovations finished by the end of November. Then, in December, we will install two new toilets, a vanity above the bathroom sink, our new kitchen and our 16 pendant lights - slowly, but surely. Once all of the lighting and cabinetry is in place, we can start moving up our personal belongings - though I won't be able to lift or do that much so I'm going to be more in charge in packing/unpacking and decorating.

I also have to start working on the window treatments since we'll need to cover the windows for privacy (in our bedroom, guest bedroom, baby's room and the front two rooms). The rest of the rooms can wait - we currently have only curtains in our bedroom and have lived without window coverings for the past 3 years just fine - but we know the bedrooms will soon need them with a baby coming and my mother traveling over to stay with us for a few months. The windows are all very odd-sized and we have high ceilings, so I most likely have to make curtains myself or have them made - and I'm guessing I'll have them made at this point because I want roman blinds in a few of the rooms and do not have the patience to bother making them - too complicated!

I've put together an Excel spreadsheet - I do have a background as a project manager - so the spreadsheet is keeping me on target. But oh my goodness, there is SO MUCH TO DO.

Does anyone happen to know of a good place in Hannover to have window treatments made (curtains, roman blinds, etc.?)

I wish each of you a beautiful weekend!

xo

Take it calm...there are lot of things to do, but you must take it with calm ;)
It is great to have a flat with more light...it what I miss. About the window covers...cannot help much...I had them made by mum ;)
You are so cute with your excel sheet! I'm sure it will all get done and be totally fab! And how wonderful that your mom is going to come! Mine came to be with us when I had Landon in Spain and then came back a few weeks later to Morocco (the first trip was an unexpected one since I needed someone to watch the kids when our plans changed at the last minute!) It was the best feeling in the world to have the one person who makes the entire world feel right to be there when everything felt a little topsy turvy (in a completely wonderful way, of course!)

Hey Holly,

have you tried Goslar Inneneinrichtung am Aegi? It is expensive, though.

Many Greetings, Cora

It sounds like you are "nesting" =).
Just wanted to say that I'm from the states and have lived in Germany for quite sometime. I suggest you file for your kindergeld ( free money from the gov. for the first year of the baby's life)...its paperwork but its money, right! Also, start registering for day care, pre school and kindergarten....these slots fill up fast and you WILL BE out of luck...social democracy works great, but you have to get in line and file your paperwork! Go secondhand/flöhmarkt with all the baby stuff.. you will find great things for pennies! Pick a poo ( funny name) has the softest warmest organic wool clothing for children I have EVER touched...PRICEY...but so worth it! Google it! Popolino were the cloth diapers I used...went thru about 7 diapers a day so buy 14 so your not living by the washer. Keep your child as warm as possible during the winter months you don't want pneumonia...it happens too easily here. The hospitals get flooded with sick kids. Congrats and wish you a wonderful new chapter! Window treatments I would sew them myself....your saving hundreds..thousands! xo

Dear Holly,
I ve been reading your blog maybe 5 years already and this is my first comment :).
I wish you all the best with your pregnancy and later with your baby. Enjoy every second of it.

You have nice plans, hope you will acomplish them and that you will be more succesful than I was :)
I am now mother of 3 months old and I was also optimistic about furnishing our new apartment and so. But last month of pregnancy was very lazy - there was no other choice :) and since my daughter is here, nothing much can be really done. So some rooms are still waiting for window treatments as well as some boxes are still waiting for unpacking.

Exciting news! I guess every Umzug is stressful, but maybe a little bit less stressful if you move within the house. Your husband can take one box at the time ;-)). Everything sounds so pretty already!
And...just take all thatstep by step. If everything is not finished or perfect until the baby come, the baby wont't notice :-).
So good to have your mom coming to help, how long will she stay?

We lived at Moltkeplatz in Hannover for 7 years. When I bought some old chairs at the fleamarket, I let them upholstered at Hartke, the small upholsterer shop at Moltkeplatz 3. As he made the chairs in such a good manual quality, we later ordered several curtains, roman blinds and panel curtains for the house we later bought in Hannover-Ahlem. I don't like the fabrics they show in their shop window (always too dark and too artificial shine), but inside they got a big variety. We chose italian linen and paper-like white chintz. - Sounds lovely when the wind goes through it. Washing of the curtains and the drapery after(!) the washing is no problem, the owners even sewed in a care label.

Hi Holly, I love visiting your blog for inspiration and to keep up with your renovation project, it all sounds so exciting. I might not be based in Germany (based in the UK), but would love to help with your window dressings. I'm sure that you are more than capable of measuring up and we could make them up for you, all beautifully hand-made at a very reasonable price. You can see some of our work here www.grovesinteriors.co.uk :)
