Office Views w/Shopping Guide
Hello everyone! I got a ton of emails inquiring about my office, mostly asking where things came from, so I'm going to take you on a tour of my tiny temporary office that is currently in our guest bedroom. I've not even been in this room for a full day yet and I already love it. The light it gets is fantastic and I love the big window that I have. Since I'm not staying in here long term, I wanted to make it personal without doing anything major that I cannot move with me to the other room where my office will be located eventually...
Speaking of the window, I tossed up a white curtain rod last night -- get this, it "clips" into the window frame so you don't have to drill holes into your window or wall. Fantastic.
Since I have no curtain to fit this window and haven't pulled out my sewing machine yet to make one by hand, I used a square tablecloth in white linen and with extra wide clip clothes pins (in wood), I simply clipped the cloth to the rod and my privacy solution last night was solved! When I walked in this morning I decided that yes, I need to still make curtains but for now, I am totally happy with my quick and affordable solution.
The white metal IKEA HELMER filing cabinet next to my desk is my husband's, but he loaned it to me. The white KASSETT boxes stacked are from IKEA too. Inside I keep my camera equipment and other equipment that I don't use everyday. The huge piece of wood is actually nothing special now but I plan to paint it and then use it as a mood board so I can tape things to it using my Japanese tape that is perfect because it never tears anything. I'm thinking to paint it in a fun color, like yellow or gray, and then paint the sides of it in a complementary color.
Regarding the 3 prints on the wall. The largest one is from Kat Heyes and is called Owl Face. The smallest is a photographic print of a NYC street but I cannot recall where I bought it on Etsy (sorry) and the Paddleboat is from Jennifer Davis.
Yesterday, my new Vitra chair arrived. It is from their MedaPal collection -- I bought it from Connox in Hannover but they ship all over Germany and have a website. Here is a link to my chair. I bought the one in black/white with rubber wheels so the floors are protected without having to use one of those ugly clear plastic mats. Also, rubber wheels are totally silent.
Lots of you asked where my desk came from. I bought it at Jantuma, I got the last one, but I think they'll restock I'm sure -- one of my readers told me this morning that she is going to call them so maybe it will be in stock soon. It is called Schreibtisch Carlson. I love this desk, it's solid wood and the best part is that the Vitra chair slides perfectly in the gap beneath the desk, even with the arms, this was important to me and I'm glad it worked out! It's the little things, right?
The yellow tulips on my desk are in a vintage East German ceramic vases that is vintage, found at a flea market here in Hannover Euro. The cup used for pencils + pens was a gift from my friend Alex, it is vintage from California. The speakers and the subwoofer are great, I've had them forever and brought them over with me from America - they are called Creature by JBL. The mushroom in teal was made by Stephanie Congdon Barnes that I bought in 2006 I think. It's been awhile, I cannot recall. She has since closed her shop.
The pear was 3, Euros from a stationery shop in Hannover over near Kleine Tee Laden where Weißekreuzplatz is. You can tear the pages from it and use them to jot down notes. The white lamp on my desk is going to be replaced by the Muuto wood lamp with a white cord that I ordered from Found4U, but this one currently on my desk is from House Doctor, I bought it in 2008 when I was setting up our vacation apartment in Hannover.
The phone is a Panasonic PNLC1012 from Amazon.de -- we have a few of them in the house, they are great. After going through three phones in the past year, not ever liking them, we finally found the perfect ones. On the wall you see some art, though not much because I think the mood board will be where I'll collect my inspirations, I want the walls bare so I can think in this space.
I do, however, have a special hand stitched piece of art from my friend Sania, a stylist in London who made me this beautiful present -- I have to have it professionally framed though but it will look great in this room because it is yellow, gray, blue, white and black. Perfect!
The art over the vintage Swedish bench is from RomAntik in Hannover (I paid 100 Euros for it), and the print over it is by Julia Rothman, "Luxury Apartments", a limited signed edition that is now sold out. I've had it for several years and had it framed in New Hampshire and brought it over. The cabinet is the PS SINKA from IKEA. If you want one, buy it before it's gone. I saw the 2011 IKEA catalog in Germany and it is no longer in there. My local IKEA only has three left last time I checked. The lamp is a wooden base with a paper accordion-style shade from designer Rie Elise Larson purchased at Sommerflugl at Wedekindstr. 2 in Hannover from my friend Danielle. It is also where I purchased the black waste bin near my desk with the button on it - it is recycled rubber tires and I really love it.
The Dala Horse was purchased at a Swedish design show that I went to in 2007 when I was in Stockholm, I fell in love with it right away and had to have this gorgeous wooden horse with the beautiful yellow saddle. It came from web shop Cosas. The books on top of the cabinet are two of my current favorites - one is by Camilla Engman from the Uppercase Suitcase Series and the other is called Ganz In Liberty, a book I just picked up downtown -- it contains 50 projects made by a French crafter Alice Marceau, who seems to adore Liberty fabrics and using them in her craft projects. It's so inspiring.
The old school chair in front of the PS Sinka is from the trash, I found it last month laying on a heap of trash bags and I carried it home and cleaned it up. It makes a great guest chair for whoever stops by to visit me for tea and computer/magazine time, but it is also nice to just show some of my favorite books in a simple stack.
The rug is actually a runner from Heine, nothing special, that we cannot use in our hallway because our doors are too low so they catch on the runner. So for now, I folded it in hall and laid it there just to give me something nice to stand on when I sort through all of the little things I've hidden in the many drawers of my cabinet.
Oh! I almost forgot... the little plant and handmade ceramic holder on top of the cabinet is from Greenware on Etsy, I've had it for a few years and brought it over from America, and the hoop is from Little Pretty Studio also on Etsy, I've also had this for a long time - it is for thumbtacks and pinning things that are inspirational to it which I'll do. The little yellow feltidermy jackalope head is so quirky -- I had to add it to the room because I always like a little humor in my day and it makes me laugh whenever I see it. I've also had it for a few years, it's from an Etsy seller called Girl Savage.
I hope I covered everything! Let me know if you spotted something that I missed!

Still loving the hoop bulletin board, wish that Etsy shop was still open...
as always a nice post. Thanks for sharing.
The white wood lamp on your desk you want to replace is from Rie Elise Larsen (still in their current collection).
Best,

I am searching for the same chair but can not find any in Germany, do you maybe know where to buy something like this or do you have an experinece with delivery of things like this from USA? Thank you.
Danke für die tollen Tipps. Ich habe nämlcih nach unserem Umzug jetzt endlich ein Arbeitszimmer und werde es jetzt einrichten. Da kann man jede Inspiration gebrauchen.
