Herrenhäuser Gärten

Today was another beautiful day of about 10 that we've had in a row of perfect weather with cloudless blue skies and no jacket required. Ah, Spring! I even got some color which was a lovely benefit in addition to the overall sense of relaxation and good health from being in such beautiful natural surroundings. I feel like I was away for a week! I began my Sunday with a lovely breakfast outdoors and then we spent the entire day at Herrenhäuser Gärten, the Berggarten and then the greenhouses where the most beautiful orchids live. This evening we topped off the beautiful day enjoying tapas and raspberry mojitos. Life is good! Here are some impressions from my day for you. Think pink!

Today I decided to purchase a year's pass to these royal gardens so for 25, Euro I can now go whenever I want for 12 months. This will be a great place to spend time during beautiful days. I want to bring a blanket and pack a picnic lunch -- and bring a book -- next time. I feel so lucky to live in a city was such massive royal gardens within a 15 minute commute from my home by train. Hannover has so many beautiful green spaces, if you love nature this is such a perfect place to live!

It's so wonderful that you also like my favorite garden, the berggarten. I always thought to read the book "Enchanted April" of Elizabeth von Arnim inside of the mediterranean greenhouse in april. It's so nice even in winter. When everything outside doesn't smell at all except for the hamamelis, you go inside and smell rosmary, cistus, lavender and some other herbs. That's really lovely.

Oh Holly, these photos are so pretty and calming and happy, yet full of energy! I love the bird, do you know what kind she is? And the light pink flowers make me want to dance! :)

These may be my favorite pictures yet. Love the bird in the second shot...it's so unexpected and close up.

And, I'm so jealous of your sunshine. It rained all weekend here in Chicago. BUT...keeping positive...my garden is thriving.

I really appreciate how formal gardens are still a big deal here in Germany. Just this weekend we started making plans for a visit to an area 'show' garden that lasts all year and is the size of 55 football fields - crazy huge for just a show garden!

The weather here is killing me - so much niceness with hardly any rain - hooray for spring!

we also have royal gardens in aranjuez but they wont let anyone sit on the grass or eat anything..too bad I would love to take a blanket and a book!!!
Oh my, those gardens look stunning. Your photography skills are really something - I vow to join a class in the next year and brush up on my skills. A lovely post!

Beautiful photos...I feel a little homesick. I am originally from Hanover (the "List" actually) and live now in a very small town in Hessen. Enjoy all the beauties of Hanover! (People from other places in Germany, who think Hanover is boring and faceless never know, what they're missing...).

Good to hear you like Hannover. I once lived there and found it a bit boring.Maybe it has chnged since 2001?

That lovely bird is a Diamond Firetail (Stagonopleura guttata), an exotic finch from Australia.
Was it free to roam and nest in the greenhouse? What a lucky boy!

We were there Sunday, too :) Although we missed the orchids---I guess we'll just have to go back. Thanks for sharing.

Holly, the weather here in Michigan is exactly the same, it seems. Your photos are so gorgeous....how did you convince that bird to pose so perfectly for you?

Hello there!

Absolutely beautiful picutres. Thank you so much, these were eydrops for my eyes and now I am inspired for the new week!

Wish I had a similar royal garden to visit all over the year here in my city - São Paulo.
But no complaints. My country has beautiful flowers and nature.

Green kisses
Wow, you really are wonder woman! Aside (or besides??...I never know which one to use...) the fact of running two gorgeous blogs, writing a book; you also take awesome pictures?.

wow. I'm impressed!.
