{haus updates}
Hallo friends! :) Thanks for checking in on me today and my little apartment. Here's a glimpse of my living room today, it was quite dark for most of the afternoon but with Bebel Gilberto and candles, I was busy at work on my laptop making the most of gray weather (which I actually like since it forces me to chill out) and darkness.
I added a new lap quilt for the sofa for movie watching and book reading, and of course the teapot as a decorative accent on the coffee table. I also purchased some 'winter' cushions to warm up the sofa in grays and plums, linen and velvets, so I'll use those on cold days like today and on sunny days the other bright ones will replace them. I like to swap.
I found a table on the street the other day as I walked to the market so now it's my new side table. :) (side note: Along with the table there was a floor lamp from the 1950's abandoned on the street and it works perfectly so I'm going to wash the globes with warm soapy water and give to my mother in law. I love the stuff I'm finding on the streets here!) I plan to paint the table and decoupage the top but for now it's to the right of my sofa (shown below). The bell jar on the table was another lovely housewarming present from Esra and I just love it. Beneath it is a butterfly but you cannot really see it.
I just blogged about my new teapot from le souk on decor8, but in case you missed it here it is. We enjoyed it this afternoon with tea and cake. :)
And remember when I told you that I ordered those special things from la pomme? They arrived this morning so the apples went on my windowsill, I placed them on a mother of pearl tray that I found locally for 8 Euros. I like how simple my window looks right now, candles aglow, it's relaxing and uncomplicated. The pine trees and brick rooftops provide the perfect ambiance I think, typical of this region in Germany.
I also have my bedroom inspiration in mind, with the accent colors finally decided upon (after the moodboard was created): fuchsia and deep plum.
And did I show these pretty milk soaps from Germany and this new tea cosy from England for my white porcelain teapot (not the ornate copper kettle)...
Oh and the bowls from Istanbul (blogged here on decor8) given to me by my friend Esra?
And of course, my chairs! I'm painting them white and using black/white striped fabric to upholster the seats. This project will be continued this weekend...
I also got a little crafty recently too and made a mobile using wooden birds, beads, wire, ribbon, and found papers along with acrylic paints. It was quite fun and I placed it near my window.
I think that's all the updates for now from haus maus central. Now to work on these chairs and get started on my bedroom design -- the goal is to turn it into a romantic love nest instead of the current hospital chic aesthetic.
xo,
Holly

that mobile is precious Holly. what a sweet touch.
i have to tell you i almost gasped, well i did actually. i was reading along, obviously getting ahead of myself and when you said paint i thought you meant the coffee table. i thought what on earth would she do that for? then i realised you were referring to the side table. whew! :)
You are truly an inspiration!
Regards,
Veda
=)
use them all on very happy days..
and.. these plum bowls you have..
do you know they are called"prosperity bowls"..
the first paper money was printed with purple inh.. so there came the tradition.. of relying plum to prosperity..
the lady who sold me these bowls recommended me to put sone coins and to add some water.. to create a small "talismanic corner" =)
enjoy..
I adore the chair in white. They remind me of Gustavian interiors!
the colour is beautiful!

Hope you enjoyed your weekend and have recovered from the paint fumes...they give me a headache so understand totally
Your little house is so lovely. Everything is so organized and neat. I was following your blog for a while and is nice how things are getting done. There is a music that I like very much and I think it goes perfect with your little home. It is sang by Ana Laan and here is a sample: http://www.myspace.com/analaan.
Hope you will enjoy :)

And I L.O.V.E. your mobile! Will a DIY tutorial be forthcoming perhaps? ; )

Because you involved all your reader in the whole process of setting up your home and not just post the finished pictures we get a sense of belonging.
Great work.

Your place looks beautiful!!!
Think I'm going to start saving up for one of those turkish teapots, I saw them on soukshop before but seeing it 'in real life' on your coffeetable makes me realize they are really, really beautiful and I really, really want one!!
;-)
Looking forward to a new post soon!!
magicquilter - the quilt is from a local shop in hannover called esplanade. i really like it, it's so cozy for the soda.
renate - no progress on my bedroom, sadly. i leave germany in 2 weeks so it may not be until next may now... :(
