{i know what i said}

i know how i said a few days ago that i was first going to focus on my kitchen, but without the measurements i'm sort of stuck. very stuck. my husband will contact the property manager to see if they can send them over to us this week. oh boy will i love to get those plans in hand. i live for floor plans. when i was little i would beg my mother to take me to model homes in new communities just so i could walk through them and take the floor plans when i left. i'd go home with my markers and pencils and redesign the house using the plans and show my parents how 'i would have done it'. i even purchased those bible-thick floor plan magazines and, using graph paper, i'd alter and even design my own dream floor plan. this wasn't just a 'phase'. i did this for pretty much my entire childhood from age 8 and up. i still do it. this is why i need floor plans. soon. i have to know the dimensions in order to design a space. i love poggenpohl, one of my favorite kitchen designers in germany, but their prices make me a little nervous. very nervous. so ikea will most likely win out over dreamy poggenpohl. i love ikea but everyone has it in europe so i need to think of a way to have ikea in my kitchen but still feel very holly style. i think wallpaper will accomplish that. i'm pretty much sold on the yellow cole & son cow parsley. i think yellow and white in a kitchen is just dreamy. i also imagine all white ceramic dinnerware stacked on open shelving. but i also imagine mismatched china in teals, pinks, yellows, blues... this is my constant battle. clean and modern vs. bohemian and romantic. white ceramic vs. dainty floral china.

One thing I've started to notice with Ikea kitchens is how people have started to mix and match them... say the walnut cabinet frame with white lacquered doors, Ikea cabinets with carrera marble countertops. Something like that might help give you the eclectic look your looking for.

I love white & yellow in kitchens too. I'm going to use it in mine, once the renos are done.

That wallpaper is beautiful!! I just discovered this yellow Floral Chique/Paris Chique by Brewers today. It looks yellow and lavender although the description reads a little differently.

Drawing floor plans was my favourite thing to do when I was a kid too! I think I started when I was 4 or 5. In the beginning I used my dads architect stencils (sheets of plastic with holes in the shape of different furniture types), but as I grew older it was all free hand on graph paper. Sometimes I'd draw my friends and families apartments out of memory and redecorate them, but mostly it was all dreaming of big loft spaces with exposed brick walls and huge windows... (I still love this style!) I could sit for hours on my bed doing this, and I believe I still have some of the notebooks with sketches in a box somewhere. Do you still have yours? Perhaps it would be fun to look them through some time..

Your plans for the kitchen sounds great, I love the Cow Parsley wallpaper, and white and yellow is probably very nice and cheerful in the morning when you are having breakfast!

You are so right about everyone having ikea here, and although they have some great styles, it's nice to have something that feels like "you". So I would definitely go for Wanderluster's advice here, mix it up with other stuff! Also, just buying handles and door knobs and a cool blender from some other store would take it up a notch.

And if you don't want to go Ikea, there is this other kitchen supplier called Kvik, that is almost in the same price range, have you checked them out?

i drew floor plans growing up. actually, i do it until now and i am a teacher, not a designer nor an architect. i do it surreptitiously because i have a feeling a lot of people cannot relate to the pleasure of doing it.
